The Motorola Moto G4 Play will be available in India from tonight at 10 PM, and as is the case with the other members of the Moto G4 family, the device will be exclusive to Amazon. Its price point of Rs 8,999 ~($135) puts the phone squarely in the sub-Rs 10,000 category, where it faces some stiff competition.
How does the Moto G4 Play compare to some of the other similarly-priced smartphones that are available in India? We find out, as we take a by the numbers look at the Moto G4 Play vs Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus vs Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime vs LeEco Le 1s Eco!
When it comes to design and build quality, the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime and the Le Eco Le 1s Eco feature full metal unibody constructions, that make the device feel solid and sturdy. The Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus features metal on the back and sides, while the Moto G4 Play is built entirely of plastic.
You get a more premium look and feel with the other devices, but the build material of the G4 Play is also solid, and allows for a lot of grip, resulting in a better handling experience when compared to the metal smartphones.
The Motorola, Xiaomi, and Lenovo smartphones feature 5-inch displays, while the LeEco device comes with a larger 5.5-inch screen. All are of the IPS LCD display, but when it comes to the resolution, the Redmi 3S Prime and the Le 1s Eco have the upper hand, with both coming with Full HD displays, even though 720p isn’t particularly bad either on the G4 Play and Vibe K5 Plus, given the size of the screen.
While the Moto G4 Play comes with 2 GB of RAM, all the other devices offer 3 GB RAM. The processing package of the G4 Play is also showing its age, compared to newer and more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon processors of the Vibe K5 Plus and Redmi 3S Prime, and the MediaTek processor of the Le 1s Eco.
The battery is a highlight of the the Xiaomi smartphone, which packs a huge 4,100 mAh unit, and provides far more in terms of battery life compared to the other devices. However, the battery of the Moto G4 Play is removable, giving users the option to carry around a spare if required.
The camera packages are mostly standard across the board, with the exception of the Moto G4 Play, which comes with only a 8 MP rear shooter, while all the other devices come with 13 MP primary cameras. The Redmi 3S Prime and Le 1s Eco also include fingerprint scanners, which isn’t available with the Motorola or Lenovo smartphones.
Finally, we take a look at the pricing. All these smartphones fall in the sub-Rs 10,000 category, with the LeEco Le 1s Eco the most expensive of the lot, priced at Rs 9,999 (~$150), while the cheapest is the Vibe K5 Plus, priced at Rs 8,499 (~$128). The Moto G4 Play and the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime are both priced at Rs 8,999 (~$135).

So, there you have it for this quick look at the Moto G4 Play vs the competition it faces in the Indian smartphone market! Admittedly, the Motorola smartphone does fall short when compared to the other devices on the list, and Motorola will have to bank on the reliability and name recognition that the Moto brand enjoys.
Unless you are looking for a device with a higher resolution display, the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime does seem to be the best option, with its premium construction, fingerprint scanner, and huge battery.
